This is a Piece Titled Stele of Hammurabi from 1792-1750BCE. After reading about this piece of historical art the first thing that came to mind was the Law enforcers in our society today. The text states the "Hammurabi was breaking new ground in his attempt to create a society regulated by laws rather than the whims of rulers or officials." That is the main objective for our police force today. To serve and protect. Though many would agree that in certain cities th
is objective may not seem very evident. But at the end of the day the police and other law enforcers in our society today are the reason many feel safe at night. They put there life on the line day in and day out to make our society a safer place to be in, and those who have no desire to better themselves or only see fit to commit crime or break the laws of the land are without a doubt punished and put away. Hammurabi's way of handling things was to "cause justice to prevail in the land and to destroy the wicked and the evil, that the strong might not oppress the weak nor the strong." Like Hammurabi's our justice system today has the same objective and purpose.
